Recent workdays by SIU Restoration Club
The Southern Illinois University Restoration Club recently completed two workdays to control invasive plants in Southern Illinois. On April 25th,10 members of the Restoration Club worked with the River to River CWMA and the Illinois Department of Natural Resources to restore a barrens area at Fern Rocks Nature Preserve. The area was heavily invaded by autumn olive and Oriental bittersweet along with other woody plants. Nearly an half-of-acre of brush was cleared and treated. On May 2nd, the Restoration Club, along with Green Earth Inc. volunteers, pulled garlic mustard from Green Earth property along Little Crab Orchard Creek in Carbondale. The workday yielded the removal of 35 bags of garlic mustard.
